On the last weekend in October from 28th to 30th of October 2022 and on the first weekend in November from 04th to 06th of November 2022, the opening of the speed discipline will take place in Zermatt for the first time. Be part of it!
Do you love Zermatt and the races of the world’s best skiers? Now the two can be combined: On the last weekend in October from 28th to 30th of October 2022 (men) and on the first weekend in November from 04th to 06th of November 2022 (women), the downhill season opener will take place in Zermatt.
The first cross-border Ski World Cup races in the history of the World Cup will be held on the “Gran Becca” course. We have already been allowed to visit it and have brought a few interesting facts for you:
Name of the course
Gran Becca – In Valtournenche, Italy, the Matterhorn is called “Gran Becca” in the local dialect, the big peak.
3’700 meters above sea level
2’835 metres above sea level
approx. 4 km
The course was designed by Didier Défago, Olympic downhill champion.
The start number draw and prize-giving ceremony will take place in Zermatt (28th / 29th October 2022) and in Cervinia (04th / 05th November 2022). There will be a “World Cup Village” in both locations. You can find more information at www.speedopening.com
